What's our stance on AI-generated works?
We live in a world where new technologies are constantly being introduced. Many of these have an impact on us as writers and artists. One of the most significant new technologies to be introduced in recent times is Artificial Intelligence, or “AI.” Given its impact on the arts and our commitment to transparency, we feel it is important to make it clear exactly where we stand on the use of AI in writing and creating cover art.
At Undertaker Press, we will not accept works generated by Artificial Intelligence. Full stop. This is cause for immediate action, up to and including the cancelation of current and future contracts.
There are some programs that use artificial intelligence to assist authors in editing and revising their work, such as Grammarly and the Hemingway App. We will accept the use of these tools.
What is the difference?
In AI-based editing tools, the final decision of whether or not to accept a change still rests with the author. The tool is not creating new content, it is reviewing content created by a human author and offering suggestions. Since the choice of accepting or ignoring these suggestions is made by the author, they maintain creative control over their work.
Our goal is to make this policy as clear and transparent as possible, so there are no surprises or misunderstandings. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at info@undertakerpress.com
