Helene’s Aftermath
The aftermath of Hurricane Helene has led to unprecedented damages in the Appalachian regions of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Roads have been washed away, people have been stranded, homes and businesses have been destroyed, and crews are still working to restore power and water to the region.
Our president and associate editor, D.L. Winchester, lives in one of the hardest-hit counties in East Tennessee (Cocke County). D.L. and his family made it through the storms relatively intact—he was reviewing submissions for WINTER HORRORLAND the day after the storm, and was back at his “day job” that night—but a lot of folks around him didn’t fare nearly as well.
To support recovery efforts in the mountains of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina, we’ve decided to donate our income from the sales of D.L.’s first collection, SHADOWS OF APPALACHIA, to relief efforts. While we will donate proceeds from all sales avenues, including bookstores and Amazon, the best way to take advantage of this offer and get your funds to where they’re needed as soon as possible is to order through our website: https://undertakerbooks.myshopify.com/products/shadows-of-appalachia-a-short-story-chapbook
Recovery efforts are still being organized, and we will keep you updated in the coming days on other ways you can support those affected by Helene and her aftermath. Disbursement of the funds raised through sales of Shadows of Appalachia will be made periodically to organizations working in the affected communities, and will be announced on our social media. We don’t want you to think that your money is disappearing into an abyss—the recovery efforts are just beginning to get organized and right now, we aren’t sure where our donations are needed, but we want to be ready to send them when they are!
Thank you for your continued support of Undertaker Books, and we hope that you’ll keep all the affected communities in your thoughts and prayers in the coming days.
